Babysitting.

Mondays during lent I help make pierogies at my old church. I pick my Mom and Aunt Helen up and off we go. We're usually there between four and five hours. I left around 11:00 yesterday because I was going to drive Sandi to the dentist. She's had a bad tooth for quite sometime and she thought it needed pulled. She told me about the appointment on Sunday and said that she was also babysitting Carley that day. I thought to myself........"how in the heck is she going to drive herself home from the dentist after getting a tooth pulled and take care of Carley at the same time?". So I said that I'd drive her in case she didn't feel well afterward. Sandi thinks that's nice but a little unnecessary. "I'm only getting a tooth pulled" she said. As I do quite often with Sandi, I just shake my head back and forth in wonder. I tell her that I am definitely driving her and that's that.
I pick Sandi and Carley up and we proceed to the appointment. Oh, and I forgot to mention that Sandi's never been to this particular dentist before. It's Bill's new dentist and he made the appt. for her, so she doesn't know where the office is. I had looked him up on the internet and got his name, address and phone number and took it with us. I was pretty sure where it was, so I didn't have any problem finding it. Sandi wasn't sure we'd find it but I told her not to worry, that I had the information I needed to call in case we did get lost. She looked like she was in awe when I told her that. "I never would have thought of that. You're so smart"! she says. Again, I just shake my head in wonder.
We get to the appointment on time, and I took care of Carley while Sandi was in with the dentist. Carley's such a cute little girl. She was so good. They had puzzles and books and we just played with those until Sandi was done, which didn't take very long. They did end up pulling the tooth, and Sandi came out with a mouthful of gauze and instructions on how to take care of her mouth. I thought they told her while she was in the exam room what to do when she got home, but apparantly they just told her to read the instructions.
As we are driving home, Sandi begins to look a little queasy. I ask her if she's alright and she says that she is. A few more miles down the road and she says; "You know what, I feel a little queasy". Guess what I do.........you guessed it, shake my head in wonder. I told her that there's no way that she's going to be able to babysit Carley when we get home, and that I'd take care of her. Of course she argues with me a little bit and says that she'll be fine. Of course I argue back and say that I'm staying with Carley. We get to Carley's house and Sandi lays on the couch and we watch Carley and her sister Kaitlyn play video games for a little bit. Then Carley gets bored with that and we play Barbies. I haven't played Barbie since Jeanine was little. I forgot how damned hard it is to get those little tiny Barbie clothes on little plastic and rubber dolls with no joints! After that we played hair dresser. Carley proceeds to spray my hair with water that I swear has been in the bottles since Christmas morning, when she got the play set. I'm sitting there with dripping wet, smelly hair while she pretends to cut and shape and style my hair. Next was make-up. Let's just say that kids make-up brushes aren't as soft as the real things.......ouch! After we get all made up, it's off to the "prom". She was so cute, she had one of her sisters hand me down purple velvet dresses, that fit her like a long dress. We sit on the couch and "drive" to the prom, we get out and dance one dance and then it's off to her "house" where we proceed to take care of our babies!!!! (LOL, don't ask me.......) What an imagination. BTW, she just turned 4. That's about the time her mom gets home from work and Sandi and I head for home. Sandi is miserable and says she's probably going to take a pain pill and relax for the rest of the night.
Good idea!
I get a phone call from her about an hour or so later, she still hasn't taken the pain medicine. Although she had read the instruction sheet that told her to ice her face and not to do anything strenuous for 24 hours. She then tells me that she never expected for a tooth pulling to be painful. She thought that it would be just like when you are a kid and your baby tooth comes out............shaking my head in wonder....................

This certainly fits under the heading of "The Life and Times of Sandi's Neighbor"!
Thank goodness she has you.
BTW, I don't remember prom night like that AT ALL. LOL

Haha, me neither. Although I've never been to a prom.....maybe that's why my mom didn't let me go when I was in 10th grade!
