I'm addicted to Camp Bow-wow CamperCam! Even though Murray left yesterday afternoon, that didn't stop me from looking in on all the other pups today. If you don't know by now, I am crazy for dogs. All animals for that matter, but especially dogs. I love everything about them. The looks on their faces, their growly voices, the way they look at you when they were bad or if they just want to play! Oh, and puppy breath!!! Puppy breath is my favorite smell in the world. It's right up there with basil. Yep, that's me, puppy breath and basil and I'm a happy camper..........told you I was crazy!!
Sandi always mentions that for some unknown reason, we always seem to get pets with personalities. It goes back for many years. We once had a dog named Buddy. He was the ultimate dog. You know, the one that stands out above all the rest. Even though other dogs come and go, and you love each and every one of them, there is none that will compare to that ONE dog. Well, that was Buddy. We got him for Jeanine when she was in second grade. It was love at first sight for both of them. Buddy was part husky and part mini. collie. He looked more like husky though. He was often mistaken for a coyote. Once my brother was at work and a co-worker came in and said that he had just seen a coyote. My brother asked him where and he told him. It just happened to be right below my house. Bob explained that that was no coyote that was his sisters dog and he better not even think about shooting him! Back to his personality.
We were in the process of building the golf course and Buddy was brought up with it. He loved to run, he would run behind the mowers and try to catch the grass that was coming out from behind it. He would do that all day, for however many hours it would take to get the mowing done. He would come home with a green face and neck. That was just one of his many quirks. I could go on and on. We all adored that dog. Sadly we had to have him put to sleep when he was about 16 years old. Poor thing. We still miss him.
We currently have a dog named Bella. Let's just say that she's a one man dog and that man is Larry. She was a stray that I tried to shoo away off my porch one day. She took off but stuck around on the property. She was hanging around for a couple of days, but wouldn't come too close. We felt so bad for her though. She had just had a litter of pups and she was skin and bone. She also had a couple of scars on the top of her head. One day, after about an hour of coaxing, Michael managed to get her to come close enough to feed her a hot dog bun. Well, let's just say the rest is history. She's moved in and taken over. She even crashed Jeanine's bridal shower. Someone opened the door, and she came flying in. She went straight to my neice Gina (another huge dog fan). Larry takes her almost everywhere with him in his pick up. I think she really became attached to him the day he went through Wendy's drive thru and he got her a frosty!
She's so much fun, she loves to swim and chase her tail and we just love her.
Now to our cats.......Michael and Megan's cats technically. Michael and Megan have a little mouse problem where they live. They wanted to get a couple of cats to help control it. Megan's cousin happened to have had a cat who had just had a litter of kittens. He told Megan that she could have some whenever they were eating solid food. One night last spring we were all sitting in the living room watching our beloved Pittsburgh Penguins in the play offs, when her cousin came to the door with a box with 2 kitties in it. They were so cute. (I'm not the biggest cat fan, but I got attached to these two). We all looked at them and said that we didn't think that they were ready to be away from their mama yet. He assured us that they were on solid food and that they would be fine. The next day Megan goes out and buys all that is necessary for two baby kittens. They were barely eating solid food. They did ok though and were growing good, we just kept noticing that the one girl kitty always had wet ears. Apparantly the boy kitty was suckling on them all the time. She was doing the same thing to him but not quite as much. We thought that they had finally outgrown this habit until we were down where Michael is building his house, and we was them both laying on some pink insulation and they were both suckling it!!!
OMG, can you believe it? I was freaked out, but they don't seem worse for the wear! To top it all off, Larry went into the house to work on it yesterday and he found them both in the utility room with a squirrel. They had killed the squirrell............I can't believe I'm even going to type this but.............you guessed it............they were suckling the dead squirrell! YUCK!
Those cats have major issues!
Alright, enough about our animals. After rereading this post, I think I'm going to have to say that in regards to those cats, it might not be personality. I think it might just be downright craziness........................or maybe a little inbreeding???

You've always had the best pets, Aunt Chris! For us, I don't think we've ever had a dog with as much personality as Pippin. And he's got a suckling issue, too...I believe you've seen him at work on his "Mama Bear." Stupid thing suckles and kneads her to put himself to sleep. A sign of regression? Maybe. The cutest thing ever? Heck yeah!
Oh I know Gina. Pippin is the cutest thing when he has him "Mama Bear". Gotta love 'em!
